Hola Olvera!
This summer we decided to explore my husband’s homeland, to give our son, Aio, a taste of Spain. We rented a car in Madrid and drove from the north to the south, and one of our favourite stops was the tiny Pueblo Blanco (white village) of Olvera.
Located in the southern region of Andalusia, the Spanish poet Joaquín Romero Murube once described the town: “Olvera is a Street, a church and a castle but … what street, what church and what castle!” And he was right. There’s not a lot to see – but what you do see is spectacular.
We parked by a little playground then set off with our stroller through the winding streets, up the hill to the church and Moorish castle on top.
Every way we turned, we found another stunning view of the white-washed village, green olive groves and lush farmland. It’s breathtaking.
And the Olvera olives? Aio agreed that they’re delicious. Southern Spain is the world’s largest producer of olive oil and Olvera is the perfect place to indulge – as well as buy all the bottles to take home!
Adios for now, Olvera !
